‍‍‍Summ‍‍‍er Camp FAQs‍‍‍

My child is 3 years old, but will be starting JK in the fall.  Can he/she attend camp?

Yes, if you your child will be turning 4 before December 31st, 2018, your child can register for camp.

My child does not speak French, would this ca‍‍‍mp be a good fit?

The goal of our camp is to develop children’s French skills.  Most of our campers either come from or will be beginning French Immersion Programs, therefore the level of each child’s French can vary depending on their background.  Even children with no experience in French can be suitable. The qualified teachers will use games, activities and lessons to increase French vocabulary and comprehension.

Are the children allowed to speak English at camp?

Children will be encouraged to speak French while at camp. However, because the children may not have the necessary vocabulary to communicate all of their needs, they will likely be speaking some English.  It will be the goal of the counsellors and teachers to request that the children repeat the sentences in French.

Will the same plans be retaught weekly by the teacher every week? Is my child at risk of being bored if they attend the full 4 weeks of camp?

The teachers change their plans weekly.  Certain repetition is necessary for learning; however, the activities will be new.  The more exposure the children get the better their French will become.  The program is designed so that children can sign up for multiple weeks.

Is there a food program?

No, we do not offer food programs.  Parents must send a minimum of two healthy snacks, a lunch and a refillable water bottle daily.

What is the staff/child ratio?

Staff ratios vary according to the age of the child and the activity.  For children in the 4 & 5 year old group:  During gym activities and French class, the ratio is 1:12 or smaller, preparing for the splash pad, playing at the splash pad and returning to the school after the splash pad, the ratio is 1:6. For children in the 6 – 9 year old group:  During gym activities and French class, as well as the splash pad activity, the ratio 1:12 or smaller.

Can I register my child for certain days of the week, or do I have to register for the full week?

Registration is on a weekly basis, we are unable to accommodate daily registration.

Do you have discounts for siblings?

Unfortunately, we do not have a discounted rate for children of the same family.

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes, your tax receipt will be mailed to your home address (on the application form) by the end of February of the following year.  Also, Fun in French is eligible for the Ontario Arts Tax Credit.
